Open Question: Komatsu pc 120 excavator running rough.?

yesterday whenever I engaged the hydraulics the engine tried to die out. today I can't keep it running at all. I put dry gas in it before trying it today because I live in vermont and winter here usually means you get condensation in your fuel tank. I'm going to try changing fuel filter tomorrow but would appreciate any ideas other than that. it has only got a standard fuel filter but I was also wondering if anyone knows if there is a fuel/water separator anywhere on that particular machine. When I bought the new fuel filter this morning, the guy ar Napa was telling me about a customer that had a similar issue with his truck, and apparently it turned out to be some type of fungus that was growing in the fuel system.
